Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has urged Nigerian universities to embrace their pivotal role in shaping a new Nigeria. Speaking as the guest lecturer at the 52nd Convocation of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Governor Uzodimma emphasized the importance of higher education institutions in producing disciplined, skilled, and incorruptible graduates.
In his lecture titled “Why Universities Should Lead the Way to a New Nigeria,” Uzodimma highlighted that for universities to fulfill their expected roles, the Federal Government must take significant steps. He proposed the establishment of ICT centers in all universities, as well as in secondary and primary schools nationwide. Additionally, he called for strengthening the legislation that governs the Nigerian Universities Commission.
Governor Uzodimma stressed that universities should focus on cultivating graduates who can positively impact national development. He specifically challenged the University of Nigeria, Nsukka—one of the country’s oldest universities—to take a leading role in this transformative process and contribute significantly to the nation’s rebirth.
